Katina and I grew up in Kenosha, WI and met each other in 9th grade…actually Head-Start, but we didn’t know it back then, lol. We started dating and fell in love early. At the age of 17, we had our first child, Dylan, on the way, so it was time to grow up. We moved to Stevens Point at age 19 to get a fresh start. The two of us attended Mid-state Technical College where I graduated in Mechanical Design, and Katina in Accounting, all while having our second child, Daniel. This is also the same time I was turned on to home brewing by an old neighbor. While taking classes, I worked at Joerns Healthcare in fabrication and Katina worked for the Schierl Companies at several locations. After graduation, we set off to work with our new degrees in hand. I even landed a great job at Waupaca Foundry, my last year of school, in the Engineering Department and Katina worked several Accounting jobs trying to find a good fit. We had the opportunity several years later to move our family to Etowah, Tennessee, so I could take a promotion to Project Engineer with Waupaca Foundry. After a while we got home sick and moved back to beautiful Central Wisconsin. Katina and I continued our grind down the corporate road, but something was missing. We decided to moonlight Point Brew Supply while working our other jobs. The first location on North Division was 200 sq/ft and catered to the serious home brewer who wanted to shop locally and not pay all that shipping. We quickly outgrew that space and the next year we moved to Michigan Avenue in Stevens Point. The business continued to grow and we made a 5 year plan to also open O’so Brewing. Things continued to grow at a maddening pace, and in 2007 we moved Point Brew Supply near Springville Pond in Plover, WI and also opened O’so Brewing Company. O’so Brewing grew quicker than any of us could have imagined and after a few years we moved the entire operation to its current location in Village Park Plover. The new location also allowed us to open a tasting room and stretch our legs a bit. In early 2013, the Wisconsin Beer Distributors Association released a memo that declared O’so Brewing Company as the 2nd fastest growing brewery in the state. In Fall of 2015, O’so won its first Great American Beer Festival Award and we couldn’t be more proud that it was for a year round beer!
All this is possible because we have met some incredible people along the way that believed in our dreams as much as we did. You are only as good as the people you surround yourselves with, so we must be some pretty cool folks. Thanks to everyone that has supported us and helped us to get where we are today. Most importantly I want to thank my very understanding wife Katina for not only letting me quit my “real job” to chase my dream, but for actually making my dream her dream. (March 2016)
